Springfield Public Schools is seeking a Substitute Nurse- LPN for the 2026-2027 school year. Requirements

• Must have a current valid license to practice as a Nurse in Massachusetts.
• Current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.

Nice To Haves

• Three years of responsible professional nursing experience in school nursing or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate students' health, pertinent family history, and home factors.
• Counsel students, parents, and school personnel about health problems and issues.
• Maintain health records, conduct, require research, and evaluate school health programs.
• Notify appropriate individuals of immediate and potential health-related problems.
• Coordinate health resources of school, home, community, and allied health agencies/hospitals.
• Prepare regular written reports for supervisor, MDPH, and other relevant agencies.
• Develop individual health care plans as needed and coordinate with other providers and school personnel.
• Document pertinent information in student records according to the Standards of Practice.
• Provide emergency care for all students on school premises in the event of injury or sudden illness.
• Administer medication to students with parent/guardian and physician consent.
• Perform site-mandated screenings in vision, hearing, scoliosis, TB testing, and other health-related activities.
• Provide information about health and disease prevention in cooperation with health education programs.
• Participate in school health-related activities as deemed appropriate by the principal/supervisor.
• Act as a resource in health education to students and families.
• Initiate, promote, maintain, and implement programs for disease recognition, prevention, and control, including immunizations.
• Collaborate with staff in schools and health centers.
• Provide sport physical clearance coverage as needed.
