About The Position
This position is for a Substitute Educational Associate for the 2026-2027 school year within the Newton Community School District. Substitute employees will be notified of available substitute assignments on an as-needed basis to fill in for absent staff. Hours and the frequency of assignments will vary depending on district staffing needs, employee absences, and the substitute's availability. Hired applicants must be able to pass both the DCI criminal history background check and the prework physical requirements.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to relate effectively to children with special needs.
- Evidence of the emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved.
- Must pass the DCI criminal history background check.
- Must pass prework physical requirements.
Nice To Haves
- Iowa BOEE Paraeducator certificate preferred.
Responsibilities
- Fill in for absent staff on an as-needed basis.
- Attend training to assist with specific student's needs.
- Follow policies and practices.
- Maintain a loving, caring, helpful relationship with children.
- Anticipate problem situations and/or children in need of assistance.
