About The Position

A Substation Welder at Irby Construction Company shall possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in welding metal. Aluminum experience is a plus. This is not limited to vocational training and classwork performing welding functions in a job type role for 2 years. The individual will possess all the skills required for assignment from the foreman for welding. Such an employee shall also have in depth knowledge of all applicable OSHA codes and standards, especially for welding.

Requirements

Minimum of two (2) years of experience in welding metal.
Possess all the skills required for assignment from the foreman for welding.
In-depth knowledge of all applicable OSHA codes and standards, especially for welding.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Must be willing to stay out of town.
Available to travel as the project requires.
Willing to work over-time and be able to work extended periods of time.
Walking and working across uneven terrain.
Climbing on and off large trucks and equipment.
Must be able to work outside 100% of the time.
Able to lift in excess 50 pounds on a daily basis.
Willing to work off the ground in man baskets.
Must be able to work around energized systems.
Must have current applicable aluminum welding certification or be able to successfully pass a weld test.

Nice To Haves

Aluminum experience is a plus.
Knowledge of electrical, below grade or concrete foundation trade a plus.
High Voltage Substation construction knowledge or experience a plus.

Responsibilities

Accurately take field measurements for string busswork, tube buss and make the cut.
Weld connectors to busswork.
Weld aluminum connectors to aluminum busswork from 1” to 6” aluminum buss sizes.
Weld aluminum connectors to aluminum cable up to 2000 AAC.
Obtain or be able to obtain an Aluminum Welders Certification.
Accountable for quality of work to ensure that it is being performed according to specifications.
Assist with other activities while not actively welding.
