About The Position

The Drafter - Substation performs routine substation design assignments requiring knowledge and skill in basic CAD techniques and procedures. The role requires knowledge of CAD standards and materials, and use of AutoCAD software. The drafter supports substation projects across the QISG platform and reports to a Lead Designer.

Requirements

No experience is required for an entry-level position in the electric utility industry.
Knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
Extensive knowledge of various CAD programs; AutoCAD is preferred.
Basic oral and written communication skills.
Basic knowledge of the types of drawings required to construct an electrical substation.
Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with co-workers.
Ability to deal with ambiguity, work independently, manage multiple tasks, and determine priorities in a complex environment.

Nice To Haves

An associate degree in Drafting & Design or equivalent certification is preferred.
Experience in drafting disciplines with a background in substation design is highly preferred.
More experience performing detailed CAD/design for high-voltage substation projects may result in a higher pay band.
Curiosity about and willingness to learn about major substation components; basic knowledge of these components is a plus.

Responsibilities

Work on design aspects from project inception to completion on various substation projects.
Use CAD design software for substation design.
Apply quality-control procedures to help ensure high standards of workmanship.
Take responsibility for the quality and accuracy of work.
Research information in catalogs, specifications, corporate standards, and other reference materials.
Learn and properly use the document management system and suggest improvements.
Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to stakeholders' attention.
Perform other duties as assigned.
