About The Position

This position involves assisting with or personally performing a variety of tasks related to substation maintenance and operations. The role includes conducting inspections, maintaining equipment, managing records, assisting with system data verification, and troubleshooting electrical control systems. The technician will also serve as an on-call dispatch operator for power outages.

Requirements

High School Graduate.
Minimum of two (2) years' experience with electric utility preferably in areas of equipment installation and maintenance.
PC experience required.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret safety rules, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, complete forms, and business correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers and the general public.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where various degrees of standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Must possess and maintain current at all times a valid Texas driver's license.
Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
Frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Occasionally required to sit.
Must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Must regularly drive a vehicle alone and unassisted during daylight hours and after dark.

Responsibilities

Performs monthly inspections of all substations and sets up/maintains substation maintenance records and schedules.
Inspects monthly and takes readings of all voltage regulators on the system.
Maintains line equipment such as reclosers, regulators, and transformers.
Maintains maintenance records on oil-filled distribution equipment.
Maintains the switch number file.
Assists in field verification of map and system data.
Assists Meter Technicians with voltage and service quality complaints and meter problems.
Assists with diagnosing, locating, and correcting any malfunction occurring on all electrical control systems and/or their associated equipment.
Serves as an on-call dispatch operator on a rotating basis for power outages after regular office hours.
Performs other duties as assigned or as required by the position.
