About The Position

RUSK COUNTY ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE, INC. is seeking a Substation Technician to assist with and perform monthly inspections of all substations, set up and maintain substation maintenance records and schedules, and inspect and take readings of voltage regulators. The role involves maintaining line equipment such as reclosers, regulators, and transformers, as well as maintaining maintenance records on oil-filled distribution equipment and the switch number file. The technician will also assist in field verification of map and system data, aid Meter Technicians with voltage and service quality complaints and meter problems, and assist with diagnosing, locating, and correcting malfunctions on electrical control systems and associated equipment. Additionally, the position requires serving as an on-call dispatch operator on a rotating basis for power outages after regular office hours and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience with electric utility preferably in areas of equipment installation and maintenance highly desirable.
  • PC experience required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret safety rules, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, complete forms, and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where various degrees of standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Possess and maintain current at all times a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must regularly drive a vehicle alone and unassisted during daylight hours and after dark.
