Substation Technician Intern - Great Bend or Concordia, KS
About The Position
As a Substation Technician Intern, you will be exposed to installing, inspecting, testing, and repairing substation equipment including power transformers, load tap changers, high voltage circuit breakers, switchgear, and various electronic systems. The majority of the duties involve working with alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) circuits between 48 and 600 volts. This internship offers opportunities to receive one-on-one training from a safety-conscious team, travel the countryside, and work outdoors within our service territory. You will gain experience in reading and understanding construction and manufacturers’ drawings and specifications, schematic diagrams, and substation drawings. This role provides hands-on experience in an electric utility to further your career.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a post-high school technical certification program in industrial electrical, instrument and control, or electronics.
Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, test, and repair substation equipment including power transformers, load tap changers, high voltage circuit breakers, switchgear, and various electronic systems.
- Work with alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) circuits between 48 and 600 volts.
- Read and understand construction and manufacturers’ drawings and specifications.
- Read and understand schematic diagrams and substation drawings.
