Substation Technician Intern - Great Bend or Concordia, KS
About The Position
As a Substation Technician Intern, you will be exposed to installing, inspecting, testing, and repairing substation equipment including power transformers, load tap changers, high voltage circuit breakers, switchgear, and various electronic systems. The majority of the duties involve working with alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) circuits between 48 and 600 volts. Opportunities include one-on-one training from a safety-conscious team, traveling the countryside and working outside within our service territory, gaining experience in reading and understanding construction and manufacturers’ drawings and specifications, schematic diagrams, and substation drawings, and gaining hands-on experience in an electric utility to further your career.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a post-high school technical certification program in industrial electrical, instrument and control, or electronics.
Responsibilities
- Installing, inspecting, testing, and repairing substation equipment including power transformers, load tap changers, high voltage circuit breakers, switchgear, and various electronic systems.
- Working with alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) circuits between 48 and 600 volts.
- Reading and understanding construction and manufacturers’ drawings and specifications.
- Reading and understanding schematic diagrams and substation drawings.
