Requirements

  • B.S. degree in an Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited university (Electrical preferred)
  • 4+ years of prior relevant substation engineering experience
  • Familiarity with electric infrastructure and the theories and principles involved in substation engineering.
  • Experience with engineering programs and software (including SKM, ASPEN, ETAP, CDEGS, or vendor software).
  • Competency in applying basic theories and principals involved in substation engineering.
  • Experience with Engineering, Procurement & Construction turnkey projects for electric utilities is strongly preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Bentley ProjectWise data management system.
  • Engineer In Training (EIT)
  • Understanding of the function and application of major substation electrical and control house equipment
  • Experience working on EPC projects or similar style of contracts
  • Construction support experience.
  • Understanding of the importance of quality and quality control in power/consulting industry.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under high pressure situations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Substation Physical Electrical engineering design (including general arrangement, electrical plans and sections, grounding plan and details, raceway plan and details, shielding plan and details, lighting plan, and details, etc.) at HV and EHV voltage levels while adhering to prevailing standards, practices, procedures, and project/program requirements.
  • Perform Protection and Control engineering design (including relaying one-lines, AC schematics, DC schematics, metering, SCADA systems, station communications, station automation, station security, etc.) at HV and EHV voltage levels while adhering to prevailing standards, practices, procedures, and project/program requirements.
  • Read and design substation physical drawings such as operation one-line drawings, electrical plan and section drawings, foundation layouts, grounding layouts and details, Conduit layouts and details.
  • Assist senior engineers with engineering studies.
  • Prepare project deliverables including but not limited to engineered drawings, technical reports, project-related correspondence and miscellaneous project documentation.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines as required. Should be able to assess the impacts of design changes on other disciplines to pick the best solution.
  • Perform Quality Control reviews where applicable
  • Provide technical oversight, direction, and support for project teams where applicable
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals under the direction of project engineers.
  • Provide drawing counts and manhour estimates for specified projects.
  • Assist the team with the development of processes and procedures to improve project execution efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records and files and a high level of organization.
  • Take opportunities to improve technical knowledge and understanding of the work.
  • Develop and provide moderate complexity technical presentations to the team to assist with training and staff development.
  • Assist project engineer with project-related technical support to field personnel during construction.
