About The Position

Designed for an electrical engineering student approaching graduation, the Substation Engineer role offers the opportunity to develop specialized expertise in high-voltage substation engineering. The engineer will support the development, design, construction, and operation of new and existing substations.

Requirements

  • Have a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university, with an expected graduation date of December 2026 or May 2027.
  • Have an understanding of electric-power systems developed through coursework, research, internships, or academic projects.
  • Have an interest in high-voltage substation engineering, procurement, and construction.
  • Can perform technical analyses, interpret results, and clearly explain and support conclusions.
  • Have strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Can manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Work effectively with others.
  • Take initiative to learn unfamiliar technical subjects and address new challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • Internship, co-op, research, or academic project experience involving electric-power systems or high-voltage substations.

Responsibilities

  • Support competitive proposals and project development activities involving substation engineering, procurement, and construction.
  • Support the preparation and review of substation design packages, including physical layouts, material specifications, and construction specifications.
  • Review protection and control designs and related electrical studies and reports.
  • Develop and review project cost and schedule estimates.
  • Evaluate engineering, procurement, and construction alternatives to identify solutions that balance cost, safety, reliability, constructability, schedule, and other project requirements.
  • Provide technical support for new and existing substation assets during development, construction, and operations.
  • Support the management of engineering, procurement, and construction contracts and coordinate with consultants and contractors.
