About The Position

The Substance Abuse Treatment Program (SATP) at Montefiore provides methadone treatment for opioid dependence, along with individual and group counseling. Its care model also includes onsite primary care and chronic illness care, as well as mental health, nutritional, and vocational services. The Substance Abuse Specialist provides individual and group substance abuse counseling, psychosocial evaluations, and case management to patients enrolled in the Chemical Dependency Program.

This is a 100% grant-funded position. The schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• CASAC, or a license in social work, mental health counseling, or a related field.
• At least one year of work experience as an addictions counselor; experience with methadone clients is preferred.
• Knowledge of and ability to integrate historical and current patient issues.
• Knowledge of substance abuse counseling and treatment.
• Ability to work effectively with adults and older adults with addiction.

Responsibilities

• Screen patients to ensure they are appropriate for care.
• Complete biopsychosocial evaluations using available information, including interviews with patients and families and consultation with interdisciplinary associates.
• Develop, implement, and validate treatment plans and discharges in a timely manner in collaboration with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
• Provide chemical dependency counseling to individuals, groups, couples, and families.
• Document client progress in accordance with program policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in staff conferences and other meetings.
• Participate in relevant performance-improvement activities, including trainings and conferences.
• Provide community outreach and education.
