About The Position

Avenues Recovery Center is hiring a part-time Substance Abuse Counselor for its outpatient facility in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The counselor provides individualized, evidence-based addiction treatment and manages the clinical needs, services, and aftercare of an assigned client caseload. The role includes therapy, crisis response, documentation, and coordination with the treatment team and clients’ families while modeling recovery principles and professional ethics.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field.
• Valid state licensure or certification necessary to practice in the role, such as LPC, LCSW, PLPC, CIT, RAC, or CSW.
• Excellent observational, collaborative, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Compassionate, dignified character that models recovery principles.
• Ability to set strong boundaries and maintain absolute confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree.

Responsibilities

• Create individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for each client.
• Conduct individual, group, family, and couple therapy sessions.
• Manage the clinical needs, services, and aftercare for an assigned client caseload.
• Prevent, intervene, and de-escalate in the event of a crisis.
• Maintain thorough documentation of client challenges, progress, relapse risk, and interventions.
• Coordinate care with the Clinical Director, treatment team, and family.
• Model honesty, accountability, dignity, respect, and recovery principles in professional interactions.
