About The Position

Avenues Recovery Center is hiring a part-time Substance Abuse Counselor for its outpatient facility in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The counselor provides individualized, evidence-based addiction treatment and manages clinical services and aftercare for an assigned client caseload. The role includes therapy, crisis response, documentation, and coordination with the treatment team and clients’ families. Avenues Recovery Center operates drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs, including detox, residential, PHP, IOP, and outpatient services.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field.
• Valid state licensure or certification required to practice in this role; examples include LPC, LCSW, PLPC, CIT, RAC, or CSW.
• Excellent observational, collaborative, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Compassionate, dignified character that models recovery principles.
• Ability to set strong boundaries and maintain absolute confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for each client.
• Conduct individual, group, family, and couple therapy sessions.
• Manage clinical needs, services, and aftercare for an assigned client caseload.
• Prevent, intervene, and de-escalate during crises.
• Document client challenges, progress, relapse risk, and interventions.
• Coordinate care with the Clinical Director, treatment team, and family members.
• Model honesty, accountability, dignity, respect, and recovery principles in professional interactions.
