About The Position

This is a student worker position in an off-campus community service role assisting the Urban REAP Program Coordinator with managing the Compost Program, Gardens, and Garden Center. The role requires eligibility for Federal Work-Study and reliable transportation. The position offers flexible working hours of 10-20 hours per week and is desired for Fall/Ongoing employment.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study.
  • Reliable transportation is important as this is off-campus employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in Environmental Studies, Ecology, Biology, Horticulture, Sustainable Agriculture, or similar.
  • Bilingual Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintaining the inventory and display of items in the Garden Center.
  • Greet and assist visitors with their questions and requests during open hours.
  • Manage the Compost Club, including managing subscribers and processing buckets.
  • Strategize and spearhead outreach to recruit more members for the Compost Bucket Subscription Program.
  • Maintain the 3-bin compost system for educational purposes.
  • Plan, plant, and maintain Demo Gardens onsite for education and production.
  • Cultivate new plants from seed and propagations for Demo Gardens and Garden Center.
  • Collaborate with the Education Team to ensure signage around compost and gardens is accurate and engaging.
  • Take photos to add to the photo library.
  • Create social media posts that educate and advertise Urban REAP to the general public.
  • Assist with volunteer management by leading volunteers in compost- and garden-related tasks.
  • Assisting with other tasks and projects as needed for Urban REAP operations.
