About The Position

The Blinn College District is searching for a Student Worker - Peer Coach at our Bryan Campus. The main objective of the peer coaching position is to help recruit, engage, and retain students with a background in foster care. This role ensures these students access and utilize available resources and benefits, with a particular focus on state tuition and fee waiver utilization. Peer coaches will work directly with identified students to familiarize them with Blinn's campus resources and any benefits or services for which they may be eligible. They will engage students with experience in foster care by directly reaching out and providing individual support as appropriate. Peer coaches will work directly with and be supervised by the LPC Liaison in the Disability Services Office. They will also collaborate with Education Reach for Texas staff to learn, practice, and document the use of peer coaching as part of a pilot program aimed at increasing engagement and access to campus and community resources.

Requirements

Must be a half-time student at Blinn College.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication, organization, and public relation skills.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Must be dependable, self-motivated, and able to assist the office.
Ability to plan ahead, adhere to confidentiality requirements, and be on time.
Computer literacy and ability to learn software.
Must be self-motivated and proficient in handling remote work.
Applicants should be familiar with campus processes including but not limited to meeting with academic advisors, class registration, and accessing campus resources.

Nice To Haves

Students with lived experience in the foster care system to serve as peer coaches.

Responsibilities

Follow through on assigned tasks and work independently.
Attend all scheduled meetings.
Provide outreach and engagement to students at Blinn identified as having lived experience in the foster care system.
Practice utilization of a peer coaching model being piloted for the project.
Assist in assessment of students' needs and eligibility for other services and benefits and connect students to resources as appropriate with the support of the institution's higher education foster care liaison.
Track all touchpoints and other data related to the project and report on a regular basis to grant staff.
Attend all in-person and online trainings and professional development related to the peer coaching model and Education Reach for Texas annual conference and webinars.
Maintain a simple budget of money to engage with students and programming.
