About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is seeking to hire an ASUN Senator for the Orvis School of Nursing/School of Medicine. The Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) provides a means for students to voice concerns and address issues at the university, local, state, national, and international levels. A Senator, elected by peers in their college, serves as a legislator, amending and generating bills and resolutions that reflect the needs and voices of students. This is an appointed student government position, and candidates must meet eligibility requirements outlined in the ASUN Constitution and Statutes. Applying does not guarantee employment; candidates must be interviewed and appointed by the ASUN Senate.

Requirements

  • Senator must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno.
  • Senator must have a 2.0 GPA and be enrolled in at least 7 credits.
  • Senator must have a declared major in the college you wish to represent.
  • Senator must perform all duties and instructions outlined by the ASUN Governing Documents.
  • Uphold the Nevada Student Code of Conduct.
  • Senator must meet all deadlines set forth.
  • Senator must attend all required meetings and training.
  • Senator must work scheduled hours.
  • Senator must properly complete and submit HR paperwork on time.
  • Senator must assist in the promotion of the mission of ASUN and Nevada.
  • Senator must act in a manner that is ethical, maintaining a high level of integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Host four office hours within a two-week period.
  • Regularly attend the entirety of the convening of the Senate and its committees to which the Senator has been assigned. Inability to attend the entirety of Senate meetings on a weekly basis will result in disqualification from the Office of Senator.
  • Report during committee meetings to which the senator is assigned with respect to the Senators activities as the previous meeting, whenever the chair of the committee requests.
  • Mentor and educate Legislative Intern(s) that may be assigned to them in concurrence with the standards proposed by the Speaker Pro Tempore and approved by the Senate body for that session.
  • Regularly attend meetings of the Student Advisory Board of the college which the officers are representing or take initiative regarding an inactive or nonexistent advisory board.
