About The Position

The instructor is a registered nurse who teaches nursing courses in cooperation with other level faculty and is responsible for implementing the curriculum. They participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of nursing courses within the level and in the development and evaluation of the total program.

Requirements

  • Current RN registration in the State of New York.
  • Master's degree in nursing required. Will consider a bachelor's degree in nursing and will need to provide verification of enrollment in an accredited master's in nursing program to be completed within three years.
  • Demonstrated competence in a specific area of nursing practice and theory.
  • Demonstrated competence in principles specific to the teaching/learning process.
  • Basic Life Support required.
  • ACLS, PALS required for faculty teaching in ER, ICU.
  • NRP required for those teaching in OB.
  • Will be expected to teach theory and/or clinical in both the day and evening programs.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in theory and clinical teaching utilizing a variety of teaching strategies to facilitate student achievement of course and level objectives.
  • Directs and supervises students in the nursing process in classroom and clinical settings.
  • Maintains school standards to adhere to the standards set forth by the New York State Department of Health, New York State Department of Education, The National League of Nursing, and ACEN (accrediting body).
  • Counsels students academically and professionally and may serve as advisor for individuals and groups as delegated or selected.
  • Participates in total program evaluation to identify changes, which would benefit the educational process.
  • Cooperates with System Director of Education/SON in long range planning for the School of Nursing, in concert with school philosophy, Medical Center mission and goals.
