About The Position

Tutors will work at local elementary schools to provide tutoring services to early elementary children one on one. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct tutoring sessions in which each student is actively involved in exploring and learning the material. Review course concepts, provide alternate explanations, and offer multiple strategies for reviewing and reinforcing information. Help students to identify resources and to develop problem-solving strategies they can use when studying on their own. Other related duties as assigned. Additional Responsibilities Collect and submit data to the LTPR at the end of the semester. Attend mandatory training sessions and meetings. Maintain literacy center inventory. Participate in occasional recruiting events.

Requirements

  • Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.
  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
  • Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).
  • Proficiency in use of personal computer workstation with common software applications.
  • Ability to organize and multitask functions to ensure compliance with deadlines.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills.
  • Problem analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn and use multiple software programs.
  • Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.
  • Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
  • Promptly complete all required trainings.
  • Submit time sheet biweekly.
  • TB screening.
  • Reliable transportation to travel to assigned school.
