About The Position

This is a Regular Student Tutor position which will provide in-person academic tutoring to students while maintaining an effective and positive learning environment. Language tutors assist students enrolled in elementary through intermediate level courses. Job functions include tutoring and advising students on how to improve their language skills and their language acquisition practices. The tutor may also be asked to assist in class sessions.

Requirements

• Must be a competent speaker, writer, and learner who is able to communicate both in the language and about the language being taught.
• Must be able to meet with students on campus in the department’s tutoring office during scheduled times that serve the student population.
• Must be punctual, dependable, and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to communicate and work well with others.
• Must have sensitivity of intercultural communication.
• Must handle confidential information in a professional and ethical manner.
• Must be enrolled at least half-time (5 hours for graduates, 6 hours for undergraduates) during fall/spring semesters.
• Must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours during summer semesters, or enrolled in fall classes if not taking summer classes.
• International students must be enrolled full-time (9 credit hours for graduates, 12 credit hours for undergraduates) during fall/spring semesters.
• Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate) to work during the summer.

Nice To Haves

• Modern Languages majors and minors are preferred candidates.
• It is not necessary that the tutor have perfect mastery of the target language, but the tutor should always be in a position to enable good learning practices and discourage poor ones.
