About The Position

Provides routine non-classroom, academic instruction to students. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Meets students and go over their homework assignments in applicable subject area. Ask students about specific topics or subject areas that warrant further exploration. Review homework and test scores, and work through problems or questions. Provides study aids to assist. May perform as lead for other Tutors. Performs other related duties as assigned. Additional Responsibilities Tutor students, individually and in groups. Facilitate learning of course material. Lead SI (Supplemental Instruction) sessions. Model effective learning and study strategies for content mastery. Attend assigned classes. Arrange and keep work hours at the ULC. Develop and maintain a professional relationship with SI course instructors. Maintain confidential records. Prepare reports. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.
  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
  • Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact effectively, professionally, and tactfully with students, faculty, and other university personnel.
  • Ability to motivate students.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to arrange and keep a work schedule.
  • Strong academic knowledge in content area.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to prepare and facilitate workshops, presentations, and orientations to groups of students.
  • Ability to think critically and problem solve.
  • Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.
  • Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
  • Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule.
  • Promptly complete all required trainings.
  • Submit time sheet biweekly.
  • Undergraduate student must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester of college-level courses or accepted remedial courses.
  • International undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 semester credit hours to meet the federal immigration guidelines.
  • Must maintain a 2.0 TAMIU overall GPA.
  • Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours per semester.
  • International graduate students must enroll in 9 semester credit hours in order to meet the federal immigration guidelines.
  • Must maintain a 3.0 TAMIU overall GPA.
  • Students who will be graduating may enroll for less than half time for their final semester.
  • Must submit proof of graduation.
