About The Position

Provides routine non-classroom, academic instruction to students. This role involves meeting with students to go over homework assignments, explore specific topics, review homework and test scores, and provide study aids. The position may also involve acting as a lead for other tutors and performing other related duties as assigned. Additional responsibilities include tutoring students individually and in groups, facilitating learning of course material, leading Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions, modeling effective learning strategies, attending assigned classes, arranging and keeping work hours at the University Learning Center (ULC), developing and maintaining professional relationships with SI course instructors, maintaining confidential records, and preparing reports.

Requirements

• Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.
• Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
• Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
• Ability to interact effectively, professionally, and tactfully with students, faculty, and other university personnel.
• Ability to motivate students.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to arrange and keep a work schedule.
• Strong academic knowledge in content area.
• Computer literate in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
• Ability to prepare and facilitate workshops, presentations, and orientations to groups of students.
• Ability to think critically and problem solve.
• Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.
• Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
• Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule.
• Promptly complete all required trainings.
• Submit time sheet biweekly.

Responsibilities

Benefits

• Pay of Rate : $10.50/hour for up to 19 hours weekly
