About The Position

Members of the Student Technical Crew are responsible for assisting with the set-up and tear-down of Lied Center events. Students will assist with the operation of technical systems during events, provide stage and production support, work alongside professional staff to ensure successful execution of professional music, dance, theatrical tours, university ensemble performances, organizational events, and community events. Students will help maintain and repair equipment, and work as part of a 50+ member technical crew team, meeting deadlines, participating in training, completing general production tasks as assigned, and otherwise supporting the technical aspects of the facility under the supervision of full-time technical staff. Students will also assist with costume and production area support.

Requirements

  • Must be able to adhere to an online-based scheduling system.
  • Must be able to communicate in a clear, timely and consistent manner using email correspondence as evidenced by application materials.
  • Must have a flexible schedule as evidenced by application materials.
  • 2 two-hour blocks of time available during weekdays, not including noon - 1pm.
  • Experience in concert, theatre, or video production as evidenced by application materials.
  • Working knowledge of stagecraft with relevant background (ex: fly crew, sound, electrician, carpenter, prop handler, costumes, camera operator, etc.) as evidenced by application materials.
  • During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours.
  • For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
  • Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the set-up and tear-down of Lied Center events, including hanging and focusing lights, moving curtains, loading and unloading counterweight arbors, setting up and striking acoustical shells and large music ensembles, laying dance floors, and loading and unloading equipment.
  • Assisting with the operation of technical systems during events, including running lighting consoles, setting up and running audio systems, operating cameras, and running video projections.
  • Providing stage and production support, working alongside professional staff to ensure successful execution of professional music, dance, theatrical tours, university ensemble performances, organizational events, and community events.
  • Helping maintain and repair equipment, including changing lamps, repairing cables, maintaining technical systems, and supporting the upkeep of facility equipment.
  • Working as part of a 50+ member technical crew team, meeting deadlines, participating in training, completing general production tasks as assigned, and otherwise supporting the technical aspects of the facility under the supervision of full-time technical staff.
  • Assisting with costume and production area support, including laundering and pressing costumes and helping maintain clean and organized production spaces.
