Student Technical Assistant – Tomasino Lab
About The Position
This position is a part-time (maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Technical Assistant role within the Department of Food Science and Technology at Oregon State University (OSU). The role involves performing research in support of academic faculty, specifically Dr. Elizabeth Tomasino's program. Duties may include cleaning the lab, conducting routine to complex technical tasks, vineyard and field work, data gathering, chemical analysis, data analysis, smoke trials, winemaking, sensory analysis, and assisting with sample preparation. The work may also involve laboratory tasks, data collection, simple analysis, and assisting the Primary Investigator in writing research reports and manuscripts. Additionally, responsibilities include searching research papers, performing experiments, data analysis using bioinformatics tools, assisting with sensory panels, and laboratory organization to improve efficiency.
Requirements
- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- Must be able to communicate effectively in both written and oral English
- Must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified
- Must be able-bodied and sufficiently familiar with the equipment to be used
