About The Position

This recruitment will be used to fill 1 part-time (maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Technical Assistant position for the Department of Food Science and Technology at Oregon State University (OSU). Performs research in support of academic faculty Elizabeth Tomasino’s program.

Requirements

• Academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
• Meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
• Meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard (High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program; Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term; Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term; Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term; Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term)
• Able to communicate effectively in both written and oral English.
• Must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning lab
• Searching research papers related to the projects, performing experiments, and data analysis using bioinformatics tools
• Assist with sensory panels
• Laboratory organization/design to increase the laboratory’s efficiency for experiments
• Routine to complex technical tasks in support of Dr. Tomasino’s research, related to vineyard and field work, data gathering, chemical analysis, data analysis, smoke trials, winemaking, sensory analysis and assisting with sample preparation.
• Assisting Primary Investigator in writing research reports and manuscripts.
• Other duties as assigned.
