About The Position

This position serves a dual role, primarily as a Student Support Services Coordinator (TRIO) and secondarily as an Academic Advisor II. The TRIO role focuses on providing educational advising, career/life planning, and support services to first-generation, low-income, and/or students with disabilities, in compliance with the TRIO SSS Grant. This is a grant-funded position, contingent on continued funding. The Academic Advisor II role, reporting to an Associate Dean, involves one-on-one student advising, coordinating campus-level student services, providing guidance on degree selection and completion, interpreting academic policies, and participating in advising, retention, and recruitment activities. The role also includes assisting students with problem-solving, goal identification, and maintaining accurate records. The Academic Advisor II is expected to be a collaborative team member, promoting the college's mission and vision, and contributing to the development of new student success programs. The position requires a commitment to working effectively with diverse populations and adapting to evolving needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in counseling, education, or related field with a minimum of four years of experience working with populations similar to SSS participants or working with a diverse student and adult population in advising and counseling OR Associate’s degree from an accredited institution and six years of experience with a diverse student and adult population OR equivalent education and experience.
  • High School and Post-Secondary experience essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in programs that improve access and success for underrepresented populations, including adult Learners, in higher education essential.
  • Ability to administer and evaluate assessment testing.
  • Ability to provide academic and career/life counseling and mentoring.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain statistical data.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to positively interact and engage students in an academic setting that is welcoming and responsive to students’ academic and career goals.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of higher education degree requirements, current practices in higher education, and utilize relevant technology.
  • Ability to provide thoughtful academic, transfer, and career advising.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze placement data and aptitude assessments.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively speak in public and present educational workshops.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and professionalism.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work while exercising flexibility, teamwork, and humor.
  • Commitment to working effectively with students, employees, and community members of all backgrounds.
  • Must be a resident of the State of Colorado or obtain residency within 30 days of hire and perform all work duties within the state.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.
  • Successful completion of a background check including motor vehicles records report is required.
  • Will require some travel and evening/weekend hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Completed counseling internship or practicum preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide educational advising, career/life planning, and support services to TRIO participants.
  • Assist students with registration processes and interpret college academic policies and guidelines.
  • Provide one-on-one student advising, including academic, transfer, and career advising.
  • Coordinate campus-level student services and participate in academic advising, retention, and recruitment activities.
  • Assist students with problem-solving and goal identification.
  • Communicate professionally with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate manual and/or electronic records.
  • Promote the vision and mission of Colorado Mountain College.
  • Assist with tracking and reporting activities.
  • Develop and present student seminars and workshops.
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic affairs staff on student success and retention initiatives.
  • Coordinate and/or assist with tutoring programs and identify/train tutors.
  • Plan and implement field trips, cultural events, and workshops for program participants.
  • Monitor and enter participant data and maintain participant records.
  • Prepare and maintain program documentation and assist in developing program reports.
  • Assist with developing and disseminating program information and promote services.
  • Serve as a program representative and coordinate with internal and external parties.
  • Interpret placement assessments and co-create academic plans with students.
  • Discuss options and next steps for students on academic suspension and probation.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain appropriate records.
  • Collaborate with registration, financial aid, and marketing staff.
  • Participate and coordinate campus events such as orientation, success seminars, and campus visits.
  • Assist with graduation.
  • Serve on campus committees and potentially supervise work-study students.
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant community entities and refer students to services.
  • Connect and communicate with transfer institutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
