About The Position

Supports the academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and attendance needs of students by collaborating with families, teachers, administrators, and support staff. Works directly with the Mokena Intermediate School Principal.

Requirements

  • Appropriately licensed/certified by the Illinois State Board of Education
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree program at an accredited college or university
  • Extensive knowledge of Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS), the Illinois State Standards, Section 504 and Eligibility/Entitlement of Special Education Services
  • Friendly and professional attitude as well as discretion in matters relating to students, parents, staff members, and office business matters
  • Ability to problem solve matters regarding services in 504 meetings
  • Build positive relationships with students and families to support engagement and school success
  • Work well with minimal supervision and able to effectively and efficiently prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to de-escalate student situations and build rapport with students
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
  • Bending, carrying, climbing, lifting, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 30 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Assure the safety of students and staff at Mokena Elementary School and any other school-sponsored event
  • Serve as a support for students experiencing academic, behavioral, attendance, or social-emotional challenges
  • Support implementation of positive behavior supports and restorative practices
  • Help coordinate and monitor behavioral intervention plans and support strategies
  • Collect, document and review behavioral data to identify patterns and recommend interventions
  • Participate in student support meetings, MTSS/problem-solving teams, and parent conferences
  • Assist in identifying barriers to learning and coordinate appropriate interventions and supports
  • Support students during behavioral incidents using restorative and problem-solving approaches
  • Facilitate student check-ins, goal setting, and progress monitoring
  • Coordinate and lead non-medical 504 meetings at MIS, MES and MJHS
  • Maintain accurate and confidential 504 records and documentation
  • Monitor timelines and compliance requirements related to Section 504 plans
  • Assist staff in understanding and implementing accommodations
  • Communicate with families regarding student accommodations and support plans
  • Attend Tier 3 (ISA) meetings in the buildings for students being considered for referral to special education
  • Connect families with school and community resources when appropriate
  • Support parent engagement initiatives and outreach efforts
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information
  • Assist administrators with student support initiatives as assigned
  • Participate in professional development related to student support services, behavior, and compliance
  • Active member of the Behavioral Crisis Team
  • Participate in all meetings after school appropriate to the position
  • Other duties as assigned
