About The Position

Under the direction of skilled facilities professionals, student employees assist with maintenance, make-ready, and building support tasks to prepare facilities for summer conferences and fall student occupancy. No previous maintenance experience is required, training is provided by the facilities team.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled student at the University of Texas at Austin or another accredited institution.
  • Ability to perform physical labor and learn facility maintenance skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Dependable attendance and reliability throughout the summer employment period.
  • Ability to lift, move, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in facilities maintenance, skilled trades, or building operations.
  • Experience using tools, performing hands-on work, or working in custodial or facilities environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and building support tasks to prepare residence halls, apartments, and facilities for summer and fall occupancy.
  • Assist with basic preventive maintenance tasks such as changing air filters and inspecting mechanical rooms.
  • Install bulletin boards, signage, and basic fixtures as assigned.
  • Utilize the electronic work order system to receive, complete, and document assigned tasks.
  • Assist Mechanic Technicians and maintenance staff with plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, carpentry, and other trade-related repairs as needed and as trained.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas and storage locations.
  • Follow all safety procedures, departmental policies, and university guidelines.
  • Provide professional and courteous customer service when interacting with staff, residents, and summer conference guests.
