About The Position

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a student employee to fill the role of Virtual Tutor for their partner organization Step Up Tutoring. Step Up Tutoring is mobilizing a national network of tutors to provide free, one-on-one online tutoring and mentorship to 2nd–6th grade students from underserved communities. Tutors are paired with AI-powered learning software and research-backed curriculum to ensure each student receives both a caring human mentor and effective academic support tailored to their needs. This role involves providing 1-on-1 virtual tutoring to 2nd-6th grade students to help build fundamental math and literacy skills, offering support and encouragement.

Requirements

• Current enrollment in classes as part of a SNHU degree program.
• Work study part of financial aid package.
• Commit for a minimum of 3 months.
• Access to the internet and a computer or tablet with a camera and microphone.

Nice To Haves

• No prior tutoring experience is needed.
• Students with work study may be prioritized.

Responsibilities

• Work virtually with students in 2nd-6th grade, two sessions each week.
• Tutor/Mentor a minimum of 3 students.
• Each tutoring session is 45 minutes, with 15 minutes of prep time. Each session can be counted as 1 hour on the timesheet.
• Focus on building fundamental math and literacy skills using evidence-based online programs.
• Participate in live training sessions to prepare for tutoring.
