About The Position

Serve as a Student Stage Manager for the entire process of a production, including rehearsals, technical and dress rehearsals, and performances. This role involves collaborating with the Director and Playwright, managing the rehearsal space, creating and maintaining production paperwork, and assisting with training and backstage operations during technical rehearsals and performances. The position also includes assisting with strike after the final performance and performing other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program (or pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester if working during the summer).
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA (students in their first semester are exempt until completion of their first semester).
  • Federal Work Study students may apply.
  • In good disciplinary standing.
  • Must be located in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior stage management experience is helpful but not required; on-the-job training will be provided.
  • Interest in learning professional stage management practices.
  • Reads music (preferred).
  • CPR/First aid certification (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Attend all rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances.
  • Collaborate with Director to create and distribute a daily rehearsal schedule.
  • Collaborate with Playwright to format and distribute script changes, if applicable.
  • Lead the team in daily set-up and reset of rehearsal studio.
  • Create and maintain clear paperwork for production, including props/scenery tracking, entrances/exits, quick change information, and other paperwork deemed necessary by creative collaborators.
  • Assist in supervising student cast and crew members during rehearsal.
  • Assist in setting up for and cleaning up after each rehearsal, typically arriving 30 minutes prior to rehearsal start time and staying 15 minutes after.
  • Assist in organizing paperwork including props/scenery tracking, entrances/exits, quick change information, and other paperwork deemed necessary by creative collaborators.
  • Assist in training the student crew during tech and performance for main stage shows, including helping them learn the show, assigning tasks, and maintaining proper backstage etiquette.
  • Assist with creation of and distribute all props tracking/backstage run sheets as requested.
  • Assist with strike after the final performance.
  • Perform other duties as needed or required by the production.
