About The Position

To provide excellent customer service to all audience members before, during, and after official Music Department events. To assist all performers during their events as needed. To ensure smooth operations at all official Music Department Events by establishing a positive rapport with all House/Stage crew and modeling positive interactions and public service, regularly communicating operational details and observations with House/Stage Managers, and establishing a welcoming environment for all music department performers and audience members.

Requirements

  • Ability to physically move and adjust heavy musical equipment, carefully and efficiently.
  • Demonstrates ability to assist students, faculty, and staff in a proactive and positive manner.
  • Maintains professionalism and performs detail-oriented tasks with excellent accuracy and efficiency, in high pressure environments.
  • Demonstrates reliability in shift attendance and written communication.
  • Has attended or participated in at least one St. Olaf Music Event.
  • Ability to identify the key issues when making a decision or solving a problem in high pressure situations.
  • Ability to communicate priorities and goals effectively.
  • Ability to report meaningful information to supervisors and colleagues and provide valuable feedback when appropriate.
  • Ability to communicate and explain processes, concepts, or skills to a non-expert audience.
  • Candidates must possess the ability to safely perform the physical work required of all duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritizing that music event begins and ends on time.
  • Maintaining knowledge of Music Performance Spaces: Urness Recital Hall, Studio A, and Boe Memorial Chapel and their inventories.
  • Abiding by backstage policies, keyboard moving guidelines, and other equipment care expectations for both guests, patrons, and student colleagues.
  • Performing PINK card taps through Presence (or through a back-up system) for student recital credit.
  • Communicating to Managers when House or Stage feels more overwhelming than the other.
  • Close down the hall following the recital, ensuring everything is back in order.
  • House specific duties: opens the event doors for audience seating, hands out programs, collects PINK card taps for student degree credit, watches door for latecomers, helps the stage manager as needed.
  • Stage specific duties: sets stage before recital, completes stage transitions during the events, safely and efficiently. runs lights, assists performers as needed. helps the house manager as needed.
