The Developing Future Leader (DFL) role is designed to provide intentional opportunities for an individual to grow in leadership within the High School Ministry. The DFL will learn and grow in Young Life leadership, take increasing ownership of ministry responsibilities, and develop skills in communication, organization, planning, and team leadership. This role involves learning how to recruit, equip, encourage, and develop other leaders, practicing leading meetings, projects, and ministry initiatives, and seeking opportunities to identify and develop future leaders. The DFL will receive regular coaching and feedback from the Area Director and is expected to take initiative rather than waiting to be assigned every responsibility. A deeper understanding of the mission, vision, and strategy of Gallatin Valley Young Life will be developed throughout the year, with increasing responsibility as leadership capacity grows. The DFL will also provide additional support to the High School Ministry Team by checking in regularly with Young Life leaders, encouraging and supporting them, helping new leaders understand Young Life culture and expectations, assisting with leader meetings and trainings, helping communicate important information, planning and preparing for Club and Campaigners, assisting with special events and area-wide initiatives, identifying areas where the leadership team needs additional support, and taking ownership of specific projects assigned by the Area Director. The primary mission of introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith will remain a priority, with responsibilities including helping identify students not connected to Young Life, encouraging leaders to pursue new students, evaluating the health of Club and Campaigners, assisting with student outreach initiatives, helping leaders think strategically about reaching their schools and communities, and celebrating stories of students encountering Jesus and growing in their faith. The DFL is expected to prioritize their own spiritual health through regular prayer, engagement with Scripture, active participation in a local church, meaningful Christian community, healthy rhythms of rest and Sabbath, personal reflection and spiritual evaluation, and accountability with trusted Christian friends and leaders. The DFL will participate in the financial support of Gallatin Valley Young Life with an annual fundraising goal of $6,000 ($500 per month) by developing a personal support team, inviting individuals to financially partner, communicating regularly with financial supporters, participating in Young Life fundraising opportunities, and working with the Area Director to develop a fundraising plan. Individual ministry metrics will be established with the Area Director based on the individual's strengths, responsibilities, school/community assignment, and current needs of the High School Ministry. The DFL is expected to model healthy communication and team culture, including responding in a timely manner, communicating proactively, following through on commitments, bringing concerns directly to the appropriate leader, maintaining confidentiality, celebrating other leaders, encouraging unity, being willing to receive feedback and correction, and approaching conflict with humility and a desire for restoration. The DFL role requires approximately 10 hours per week dedicated to DFL responsibilities, plus normal Young Life leader responsibilities. The DFL will serve under the leadership and direction of the Gallatin Valley Young Life Area Director, who will provide vision and direction, establish goals and metrics, provide coaching and leadership development, meet regularly, give feedback and accountability, and gradually increase responsibility. The DFL will take initiative, communicate consistently, follow through on commitments, ask questions, receive coaching with humility, own assigned responsibilities, and pursue continued growth as a leader. The goal of the DFL role is to develop a leader who can eventually lead others, growing deeper in their relationship with Jesus, in confidence and leadership ability, understanding Young Life ministry more deeply, taking greater ownership of ministry, developing the ability to lead and encourage others, identifying and investing in future leaders, reaching more students with the Gospel, and becoming prepared to take on greater leadership within Gallatin Valley Young Life.
