About The Position

The Developing Future Leader (DFL) role is designed to provide intentional opportunities for an individual to grow in leadership within the Gallatin Valley Young Life High School Ministry. This role requires approximately 10 hours per week dedicated to DFL responsibilities, in addition to normal Young Life leader responsibilities. The DFL will learn and grow in Young Life leadership, take increasing ownership of ministry responsibilities, and develop skills in communication, organization, planning, and team leadership. The primary mission is to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a college degree.
  • Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Profess a belief in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.
  • Subscribe to the statements and policies required of all Young Life staff, including the Young Life Statement of Faith.
  • Be ready, willing and able to fulfill ministry functions as may be required by the organization.
  • Refrain from conduct and statements that detract from the biblical standards taught and supported by Young Life.
  • Abide by all policies and practices of Young Life including, without limitation, those related to religious belief or ministry activities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Young Life Leader, including building authentic relationships with high school students, pursuing students outside of Club, attending Club and Campaigners, sharing the Gospel, participating in camp and area-wide events, developing relationships with adults, praying regularly, and modeling the mission, values, and culture of Young Life.
  • Develop as a Future Leader by learning and growing in Young Life leadership, taking increasing ownership of ministry responsibilities, developing skills in communication, organization, planning, and team leadership, learning to recruit, equip, encourage, and develop other leaders, practicing leading meetings, projects, and ministry initiatives, seeking opportunities to identify and develop future leaders, receiving regular coaching and feedback from the Area Director, taking initiative, and developing a deeper understanding of the mission, vision, and strategy of Gallatin Valley Young Life.
  • Serve the High School Ministry Team by checking in regularly with Young Life leaders, encouraging and supporting leaders, helping new leaders understand Young Life culture and expectations, assisting with leader meetings and trainings, helping communicate important information to leaders, helping plan and prepare for Club and Campaigners, assisting with special events and area-wide initiatives, helping identify areas where the leadership team needs additional support, taking ownership of specific projects, and helping create a healthy, unified, and encouraging leadership team.
  • Engage in Student Ministry by prioritizing reaching students who are far from Jesus, helping identify students not currently connected to Young Life, encouraging leaders to pursue new students, helping evaluate the health of Club and Campaigners, assisting with student outreach initiatives, helping leaders think strategically about reaching their schools and communities, and celebrating stories of students encountering Jesus and growing in their faith.
  • Prioritize spiritual health through regular prayer, engagement with Scripture, active participation in a local church, meaningful Christian community, healthy rhythms of rest and Sabbath, personal reflection and spiritual evaluation, and accountability with trusted Christian friends and leaders.
  • Participate in the financial support of Gallatin Valley Young Life, with an annual fundraising goal of $6,000 per year ($500 per month), by developing a personal support team, inviting individuals to financially partner, communicating regularly with financial supporters, participating in fundraising opportunities, and working with the Area Director to develop a fundraising plan.
  • Establish individual ministry metrics with the Area Director at the beginning of their term, based on strengths, responsibilities, school/community assignment, and current needs of the High School Ministry. These metrics will be used to evaluate growth, health, effectiveness, and faithfulness to the mission.
  • Model healthy communication and team culture, including responding to communication in a timely manner, communicating proactively, following through on commitments, bringing concerns directly to the appropriate leader, maintaining confidentiality, celebrating other leaders, encouraging unity, and being willing to receive feedback and correction.

  • The anticipated hourly rate for this position can range from $10.85-$16.35 depending on relevant education, experience, and location.
