About The Position

The University of Hawai‘i, Kapi‘olani Community College, Office for Student Affairs, is seeking applications for the Student Services Specialist (Student Conduct Officer) position. This position is administered by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA) and is responsible for coordinating, assisting, and administering Student Conduct cases and providing case management functions for the Behavioral Intervention Team. The VCSA oversees planning and administering all programs and services within Student Affairs units, which include outreach and admissions, financial aid, registration, student engagement, counseling, student grievances, instructional services, and learning support. The role reports directly to the VCSA.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in business administration, education, social sciences, human development, social work, or a related field.
  • 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience in educational services or assistance to students, including student conduct administration, complaint resolution, student affairs administration, or handling investigations.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in student conduct administration, complaint resolution, or student affairs administration.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and theories associated with student conduct, complaint resolution, or student affairs administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex problems through creative reasoning and logic.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and through reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply legal and policy provisions to situations consistently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity, and the ability to work with a wide range of constituencies with diplomacy, tact, and sensitivity in a multicultural setting.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and administers rights and responsibilities inherent in campus compliance policies (e.g., Student Conduct Code, workplace non-violence, Title IX discrimination, EEO, etc.), including communicating with parties, conducting investigations, issuing charges, determining follow-up, crafting responses, rendering decisions, making referrals, and imposing sanctions.
  • Serves as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Students.
  • Serves as the 'first responder' clearinghouse for coordinating and facilitating the Student Conduct Code, acting as a resource for due process, hearings, appeals, and advising students on redress options.
  • Reviews and settles conduct and other compliance cases with a range of sanctions in coordination with other programs like Mental Health, Disability Services, Title IX, and Human Resources.
  • Manages and processes information in the conduct database reporting systems (e.g., Maxient), including building codes, crafting operating policies, troubleshooting technology, monitoring data, designing reports, and evaluating software capabilities.
  • Programs, develops, markets, and implements case management for the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), managing the referral system, tracking cases, and coordinating BIT meetings.
  • Keeps up-to-date with best practices for behavioral management teams and threat assessment, utilizing assessment rubrics for case management planning and evaluation.
  • Sets goals, coordinates, and implements identified support services and actions for ongoing case management as determined by the BIT team.
  • Works in collaboration with other college staff to increase student access and success.
  • Responds to campus requests for presentations, talks, panels, and informational fairs.
  • Represents Kapi‘olani Community College on University of Hawaii System meetings with student conduct officers.
  • May require working outside normally scheduled business hours, including evenings and/or weekends.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
