About The Position

Individuals serving in this capacity are expected to adhere to the Knowledge and Performance indicators of Illinois Performance Standards for School Leaders. This role involves case-managing all IEPs at assigned sites, including development, coordination, and facilitation of IEP meetings. The coordinator will develop related goals and objectives, recommend policies, and work with school staff to meet the needs of students with special needs. They will serve as a resource for special education services, programs, and policies, ensuring compliance with regional, district, state, and federal regulations. Responsibilities include analyzing data, planning activities, monitoring programs, responding to inquiries, and consulting with teachers, administrators, and regional staff. The role also involves serving as a liaison to various agencies for planning, developing, and evaluating special education services, analyzing assessment results to drive instruction, observing students/classrooms, and providing in-service training for staff and parents on understanding special education students. Continuous communication with district and Cooperative personnel, interpretation of state/federal rules, and informing the Director of student progress and program development are key. The position also assists with master schedules for students with disabilities, evaluates staff, attends Cooperative meetings, and prepares complex materials for documentation, compliance, and presentations.

Requirements

  • Professional Educator License (PEL) w/proper endorsement preferred
  • Knowledge of Special Education Individualized Education and Behavior Plans
  • Knowledge of research, trends, and best practices in Special Education
  • Knowledge of state laws, regulations, federal laws, rules and regulations applicable to Special Education
  • Knowledge of teacher evaluation processes and procedures
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships within a diverse community
  • Ability to design and deliver quality professional development for administrators and teachers
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to draft procedures to provide special education services
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationship with staff, school center personnel and community
  • Ability to interpret test data, evaluations, achievement tests, adaptive behavioral and behavioral scales
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in special education preferred

Responsibilities

  • Case-manage all IEPs at assigned sites and be responsible for all IEP development, including IEP meeting coordination and facilitation.
  • Develop related goals and objectives and recommend policies, planning, and implementation by working with school staff to meet the needs of students with special needs.
  • Serve as a resource for information regarding special education services, programs and policies and ensure that procedures are appropriate in relation to policies required by region, district, state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze data, plan activities, monitor programs/services, respond to others and consult with teachers, administrators and regional staff.
  • Address other duties and processes required to maintain the program of services and compliance for assigned sites.
  • Serve as a resource to district personnel and as a liaison to various agencies (e.g. district committees, interagency boards) for the purpose of explaining procedures conveying and/or receiving information as needed for the planning, developing and evaluating of services related to special education.
  • Analyze assessment results to drive instruction and IEP development
  • Observe specific students/classrooms and makes recommendations.
  • Provide a continuous in-service program designed to improve the professional staff.
  • Research, plan and coordinate training programs for administrators, parents, regular teachers, special education teachers, etc. in understanding special education students.
  • Provide on-going communication with district and Cooperative personnel.
  • Interpret and disseminate information regarding state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Inform the Director of student progress, teacher and other personnel effectiveness, and program development.
  • Assist with the master schedule as it applies to students with disabilities.
  • Evaluate Staff
  • Attend Cooperative meetings and presents information when requested
  • Prepare a wide variety of often complex materials (e.g. plans, funding requests, reports analyses, recommendations, procedures, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and issues, meeting compliance requirements, providing audit references, making presentations, and/or providing supporting materials for requested actions.
  • Performs other duties and assumes other such responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Special Education.
