About The Position

The Risk team is deeply integrated within OMERS and operates on a foundational principle of being a trusted partner aligned with and supporting the overall objectives of OMERS. We provide both an independent view of risk-taking activities, as well as analytics and research to inform portfolio construction and risk optimization. As a member of this team, you will be responsible for contributing to the ongoing development of a leading Risk program to support OMERS investment activities and the evolution of its investment strategies. You will work with investment data to help ramp up the development of insightful tools that support the measurement and reporting of investment risk. You will also support the research, testing, and development of analytical measures of performance and market, liquidity, credit, and emerging risks. Additionally, you will support portfolio risk governance and reviews across various asset classes, including public and private assets, and support the team’s technology and automation initiatives. You will work as a liaison with the IT team to help enhance our data pipelines, risk tools, and dashboard development. You will interact and build relationships with investment professionals across Risk and the investment teams to understand and communicate the needs of the business. You will leverage internal and external systems to source large datasets to answer key investment questions and support in the enhancement of our data quality and governance initiatives. You will create interactive dashboards for portfolio managers and investment executives to visualize and customize risk, and support the team in the creation of new analytical frameworks.

Requirements

  • Enrolment in a university degree in a quantitative discipline such as Math, Statistics, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Previous experience (including co/op or internship) in capital markets, pensions and/or risk management is a strong plus.
  • Hands-on experience working with large datasets using numerical computing tools, with a desire to understand business risks through data
  • Ability to understand and apply complex financial and statistical principles and methods
  • Ability to build effective relationships internally and externally
  • Has exceptional communication skills
  • Is eager to learn and has strong intellectual curiosity

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using Python and Power BI (and/or similar experience creating visualizations and dashboards) is a plus
  • Broad understanding of major investment assets classes (equities, fixed income, derivatives) and alternative asset classes (private equity, infrastructure, and real estate)
