About The Position

The RISE TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) program is seeking motivated and qualified Student Peer Tutors to provide academic support for undergraduate students. Tutors will offer targeted assistance in Statistics courses, helping peers break down complex data concepts, master statistical formulas, interpret data analysis, and navigate their quantitative coursework successfully.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Federal Work Study (FWS) award for the current academic year.
  • Must have earned a minimum grade of an A- in the specific Statistics course(s) you wish to tutor.
  • Must maintain a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.4.
  • Strong public speaking or presentation skills to confidently facilitate program events and workshops.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience planning, organizing, or presenting academic or financial wellness workshops.
  • Previous experience in statistics or mathematics tutoring, mentoring, or academic coaching.
  • High level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Strong organizational skills and a genuine passion for helping peers build confidence in statistical analysis and data literacy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions for students enrolled in Statistics courses.
  • Assist students with understanding statistical theories, analyzing datasets, and mastering probability and inference concepts.
  • Help students improve quantitative study habits, active recall strategies, and exam preparation techniques.
  • Coordinate and facilitate at least one (1) Scholarly Development workshop and one (1) Financial Literacy event for RISE students per semester.
  • Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, event attendance, and student progress.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions and staff meetings as scheduled by the program coordinator.
