About The Position

The RISE TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) program is seeking motivated and qualified Student Peer Tutors to provide academic support for undergraduate students. Tutors will offer targeted assistance in Psychology and various Social Sciences courses, helping peers master behavioral science concepts, understand research methodologies, and navigate their coursework successfully.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Federal Work Study (FWS) award for the current academic year.
  • Must have earned a minimum grade of an A- in the specific Psychology or Social Sciences course(s) you wish to tutor.
  • Must maintain a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.4.
  • Strong public speaking or presentation skills to confidently facilitate program events and workshops.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience planning, organizing, or presenting academic or financial wellness workshops.
  • Previous experience in psychology tutoring, peer mentoring, or academic coaching.
  • High level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Strong organizational skills and a genuine passion for helping peers build confidence in the behavioral and social sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions for students enrolled in Psychology and Social Sciences courses.
  • Assist students with understanding foundational theories, psychological principles, human development concepts, and basic research frameworks.
  • Help students improve social science study habits, critical thinking skills, essay outlining, and exam preparation techniques.
  • Coordinate and facilitate at least one (1) Scholarly Development workshop and one (1) Financial Literacy event for RISE students per semester.
  • Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, event attendance, and student progress.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions and staff meetings as scheduled by the program coordinator.
