About The Position

The Student Nutrition Aide assists during meal service to make the experience as pleasant as possible. The role supports compliance with health, safety, and school rules and regulations while circulating through the cafeteria. The aide helps manage students, supports special diet requests and food tastings, maintains allergy-free tables and cafeteria cleanliness, and helps ensure students are dismissed in an orderly manner.

Requirements

• Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10s and 100s, including using American money and units of weight, volume, and distance.
• Apply understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and solve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality, follow instructions and management direction, and respond to service requests.
• Follow Student Nutrition Services dress and hygiene guidelines.
• Meet the physical demands of standing, walking, sitting, handling, talking, hearing, and reaching overhead with either hand; lift up to 10 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Manage students during meal service and refer behavior problems to the teacher or principal according to school-site guidelines.
• Circulate through the cafeteria to assist students, encourage good table manners, promote balanced meals, and encourage students to try unfamiliar foods.
• Assist Student Nutrition Services staff with student special diet requests and ensure students receive the correct food for dietary or preference requests.
• Help conduct food tastings with the SNS manager and staff by offering samples, encouraging students to try them, and soliciting feedback.
• Prepare and clean allergy-free tables according to established procedures.
• Keep cafeteria tables clean and free of spills and trash, and prepare the cafeteria for the next group after dismissing classes in an orderly manner according to the school schedule.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
