About The Position

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital is seeking a PRN Student Nurse Tech to provide multi-skilled, direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered professional nurse. The role requires completion of a foundational nursing skills course or equivalent, such as fundamentals, foundations, or adult/pediatric health. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited RN program and have completed the first semester of nursing school and a clinical. No experience or supervisory experience is required.

The hospital is a newly built 100-bed facility specializing in short-stay surgical procedures. The Medicine – 1 West unit cares for patients with a range of clinical conditions, including heart failure, pneumonia, gastrointestinal conditions, infectious diseases, and asthma. Care is delivered by a multidisciplinary team working with physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians.

This is a PRN role requiring a minimum of three shifts per six-week schedule. Shifts can be selected around the school schedule, including weekends.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in an accredited RN program.
• Complete the first semester of a nursing program and a clinical.
• Complete a foundational nursing skills course or equivalent, such as fundamentals, foundations, or adult/pediatric health.
• No prior experience is required.
• No supervisory experience is required.
• Work a minimum of three shifts per six-week schedule; shifts may include weekends.

Responsibilities

• Assist the nurse with patient and family education.
• Document patient care activities using correct medical terminology.
• Act as a 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
• Ensure supplies and equipment are available to meet each patient's needs.
• Implement direct patient care under the supervision of the nursing team.
• Collect clinical data and information on patients and report abnormal findings to the nurse.
• Instruct patients in preparation for tests and procedures.
