About The Position
The Student Nurse Extern works in the Emergency Department at University Health Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the extern assists with patient care in an acute care setting, applies knowledge from nursing studies to real-world situations, and develops clinical skills while learning from experienced Registered Nurses as part of a collaborative healthcare team.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Successfully completed the fundamentals of nursing course, including lecture and clinical components, with demonstrated competency in basic skills.
- Provide confirmation of full-time enrollment in a nursing program each semester.
- Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher while enrolled in the nursing program.
- Complete all Student Nurse Extern competency training and education within 90 days of hire.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced acute care environment.
