About The Position

The Student Navigator role is designed to provide excellent customer and technical service assistance to faculty, students, and staff. This position involves matching with up to 30 level one incoming students each semester to provide them with wayfinding (virtual or in person) and answer questions as they transition to Algonquin College. The role also includes providing support at The AC Hub information desks and Here2Help booths, conducting campus tours, directing students to campus services, and completing first-level orientation to the Brightspace platform. Student Navigators will also input data for statistical reports, answer inquiries about the college experience and student engagement opportunities, and make timely referrals to internal resources, particularly Counseling and the Centre for Accessible Learning. Regular communication with matched students, collaboration with other college departments on behalf of students, and representation of the program at events are also key duties. The role may involve supporting operations and maintenance areas performed by students, assisting staff with routine duties, and adhering to all College safety protocols.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of up to six (6) months of practical experience in customer service
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic accurately
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and established procedures with a high degree of accuracy
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to providing accurate work
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to courteously exchange information with customers, students, staff, and the public
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks efficiently and maintain productivity in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage predictable work pressures, interruptions, and occasional competing priorities
  • Capability to meet the moderate physical and sensory demands of the position, including repetitive movements, sustained attention, and periods of standing and/or sitting as required

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer and technical service assistance to faculty, students, and staff.
  • Provide wayfinding (virtual or in person) and support to up to 30 level one incoming students each semester.
  • Respond to student questions during their transition to and start at Algonquin College.
  • Provide support at The AC Hub information desks across campus.
  • Provide support at the Here2Help booths across campus during the first two weeks of each semester.
  • Provide campus tours to students, parents, and influencers of incoming students.
  • Direct students to services and supports across campus to facilitate integration into the college and classroom.
  • Complete first-level orientation to the Brightspace platform for students.
  • Input data for statistical reports on services and supports provided to incoming students.
  • Answer student inquiries about the college experience and student engagement opportunities.
  • Provide timely and relevant referrals to internal resources, including warm handovers to Counseling and the Centre for Accessible Learning.
  • Maintain regular communication and updates with students matched in the Navigator program.
  • Collaborate with other college departments on behalf of the student to resolve various challenges.
  • Represent the Student Navigator program at Open Houses and other college-wide events.
  • Provide support to all operations and maintenance areas that can only be performed by students.
  • Assist staff with completion of routine duties in accordance with the CA.
  • Follow all College safety protocols while working on College property.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned in accordance with the CA.
