About The Position

Provide peer mentoring to TAMIU CAMP students. This role involves meeting individually with students weekly, maintaining confidential records, developing professional relationships with UNIV instructors and University College staff, and preparing written reports. The Student Mentor will also attend staff meetings, training, and workshops, and perform other related duties as assigned. This is a student worker position at Texas A&M International University within the Outreach and PreCollege Programs (CAMP) department.

Requirements

  • Current TAMIU student with 60 SCH or more at the time of appointment.
  • Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.
  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
  • Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with students and staff.
  • Ability to motivate students.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams.
  • Ability to speak in front of large groups.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.
  • Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
  • Promptly complete all required trainings.
  • Submit time sheet biweekly.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare written reports related to student mentoring and other related assignments.
  • Meet regularly with TAMIU CAMP for staff meetings, training, and/or workshops.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
