About The Position

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Summer Bridge is seeking a mature, responsible, and enthusiastic CSUSB student to serve as a Student Mentor. This role involves providing leadership, guidance, and mentorship to a diverse population of first-time EOP freshmen. The EOP Student Mentor works under the direct supervision of the Director and lead work direction of the EOP Summer Bridge Team, and participation in pre-program training is required.

Requirements

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work.
  • Ability to follow oral instructions.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels.
  • Ability to read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Admission or registration as a CSU student.
  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate).
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate).
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
  • Possession of a Social Security Card.
  • Must be in good standing with the University and the Educational Opportunity Program.
  • Reside in the State of California.

  • Grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in hosting weekly office hours for mentees.
  • Provide support and/or assistance to EOP Summer Bridge Staff and program participants.
  • Encourage and motivate students regarding their academic work, workshop participation, and overall educational transition.
  • Promote teamwork and community amongst students.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and facilitating cultural and academic co-curricular workshop(s).
  • Assist Summer Bridge professional/administrative staff and Summer Bridge instructors with program implementation as needed.
  • Assist in addressing student inquiries and/or providing appropriate referrals.
  • Serve as a mentor to student participants by providing guidance, support and accurate information.
  • Encourage and ensure students are fully participating in all activities (curricular and co-curricular).
  • Guide students to ensure compliance of University and Summer Bridge Policies.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times.
  • Attend all daily activities and other activities as requested.
  • Serve as a role-model to program participants.
  • Report to the EOP Summer Bridge Coordinator any concerns or student/instructor needs as they arise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned related to the mission and goals of Summer Bridge.
