About The Position

Student Affairs at Mont Alto Penn State is looking for a dynamic and energetic individual to join the team. The Coordinator is a vital part of the team in helping to continue the vision and mission of the department. They are responsible to the Director of Student Affairs for co-supervising a staff of up to 6 Resident Assistants, as well as overseeing the daily activities of buildings housing up to 210 students. This position includes weekend, night, and evening hours. This position will be based at our Mont Alto campus through the end of the 2026–2027 academic year (approximately mid-May 2027). The position will then transition to another campus location within our university at the start of the next academic year, anticipated to be around mid-July 2027. Candidates with questions about the future location assignment are encouraged to discuss them during the interview process. This is a live-in staff position. The position may work in a traditional residence hall setting or a diverse apartment setting with graduate students, international students, undergraduate students, and families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (If filled as Residential Education Specialist - Professional)
  • No prior relevant work experience required (If filled as Residential Education Specialist - Professional)
  • Master's Degree (If filled as Residential Education Specialist - Intermediate Professional)
  • No prior relevant work experience required (If filled as Residential Education Specialist - Intermediate Professional)
  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form
  • Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Successful completion of a motor vehicle records check
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • A degree or higher in Student Personnel/Counseling or a related area is preferred.
  • Should possess a thorough understanding of the role and purpose of residence hall living as it applies to student development.

Responsibilities

  • Co-Supervises Resident Assistants
  • Conducts regular individual and group supervision meetings
  • Collaborate on Resident Assistant performance evaluations
  • Provides support and training for student leaders
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate co-curricular programs, student activities, and service-learning opportunities
  • Assists with the development and implementation of campus-wide initiatives
  • Advises student groups
  • Makes referrals to University agencies when appropriate
  • Encourages student involvement in residential and University engagement opportunities
  • Advocates for students by communicating their concerns and issues to the appropriate agency
  • Advises individual students with academic, career, and personal concerns
  • Interprets and enforces University and residence hall policies and procedures
  • Mediates conflicts between and among students
  • Assists with the daily operation and organization of the Residence and Student Life Offices
  • Handles requests for room changes and contract releases
  • Assists in promoting the safety and security of area residents
  • Assists in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with Housing and Food Services, Safety and Security, New Student Programs, etc
  • Provides on-call duty coverage on a rotating basis, including over holidays, Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break
  • Demonstrates a commitment to students and the quality of their life in the residence hall environment
  • Encourages Resident Assistants to become well-acquainted with students in the area
  • Assists the Resident Assistants in developing and promoting a positive living environment
  • Demonstrates a commitment to staff and student retention and recruitment efforts, particularly as they impact members of underrepresented groups
  • Participate in committees and task force groups
  • Assists in the recruitment and training of professional staff
  • Assists in the development and implementation of goals for the area and the residence hall system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
