About The Position

This recruitment will be used to fill four part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Judicial Councilor positions for the ASOSU at Oregon State University (OSU). The ASOSU Judicial Councilor serves as a member of the judicial branch of the Associated Students of Oregon State University (ASOSU). Judicial Councilors are appointed through the process established in the ASOSU Constitution and Statutes and are student employees of Oregon State University. Judicial Councilors interpret and apply the ASOSU Constitution, statutes, policies, and governing documents through an impartial review of disputes, constitutional questions, and matters affecting student government. Councilors participate in judicial deliberations, issue written opinions and rulings, review legislation for constitutional compliance, and uphold principles of fairness, due process, integrity, and ethical governance. The Judicial Council is made up of a minimum of five Councilors serving a two year term. Councilors work collaboratively with fellow Judicial Councilors and other ASOSU Officers to ensure continued functioning of student government while maintaining independence from the executive and legislative branches. NOTE: This position is appointed through the nomination and confirmation process established by ASOSU governing documents. Following confirmation, Judicial Councilors are employed through Oregon State University's student employment system for payroll and administrative purposes. Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining eligibility under both university student employment requirements and the governing provisions of ASOSU.

Requirements

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard: Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term. Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term. Graduate student oﬃcially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term. Graduate international student oﬃcially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term.
Previous involvement in student government, student organizations, or shared governance.
Experience interpreting policies, constitutions, bylaws, or governing documents.
Demonstrated ability to write analytical reports or formal recommendations.
Knowledge of ASOSU governing documents and organizational structure.
Maintenance of good academic and conduct standing and a cumulative and prior term 2.0 GPA.
Commitment to promoting and advancing diversity and creating an atmosphere of inclusion for all students and community members.
Communication skills in areas including but not limited to interpersonal, public speaking, digital, verbal, and written communications.
Organizational skills, including managing time and working accurately with interruptions to meet a deadline; delegating tasks, when applicable.
Working well under pressure, exercising ﬂexibility, initiative, good judgment, and discretion.

Responsibilities

Review and adjudicate disputes arising within ASOSU in accordance with the ASOSU Constitution, Student Government Statutes, and Judicial Council procedures.
Participate in hearings, case review, deliberations, and judicial decision-making.
Analyze constitutional and statutory questions affecting ASOSU governance.
Draft, review, and contribute to majority, plurality, concurring, and dissenting opinions.
Review legislation passed by the ASOSU Senate for constitutional compliance and other matters of judicial interest.
Maintain impartiality, confidentiality, and independence while carrying out judicial responsibilities.
Represent the interests of the student body through fair and objective application of governing documents.
Participate in Judicial Council meetings, hearings, and official proceedings.
