About The Position

The Student IT Support Technician position is responsible for working as a part of a team to provide technical support for end users at the University of Kansas – Lawrence Campus. Qualified candidates must be able to work a minimum of 12 hours per week during the Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM schedule. This position requires a valid driver's license and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation.

Requirements

  • Can work a minimum of 12 hours per week.
  • Experience using or managing Windows, Mac and/or Linux operating systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting computer hardware and software issues.
  • Experience working in a customer service centric environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Previous professional experience supporting/troubleshooting computer hardware and software.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation.
  • During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours.
  • For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
  • Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using or managing Dell computer hardware.
  • Experience using or managing multi-function devices (print/fax/scan devices).
  • Experience using a ticketing system (ServiceNow, Remedy, etc.).
  • Experience using a configuration management solution (Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager).
  • Experience supporting AV technology in a classroom or event environment.
  • Knowledge of LAN / WAN principles and protocols.
  • Experience creating technical documentation.
  • Availability to work over academic, holiday, and summer breaks.
  • Eligible for Federal Work Study.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to campus support staff when requested.
  • Install, upgrade, image, and configure computer hardware and software.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
  • Maintain accurate hardware inventory.
  • Provide basic technical support via phone, email, chat, or in person.
  • Create and update support tickets in ticket management system.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
