About The Position

The Student IT Assistant will provide essential support to the IT department, assisting with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of computer systems, software, and peripheral devices. This role involves troubleshooting hardware and software issues for students, faculty, and staff, as well as supporting network connectivity and managing university system accounts. The position also includes assisting with IT documentation, inventory management, security tasks, and providing customer service for IT-related inquiries.

Requirements

• Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED
• Must be a currently enrolled student at Alcorn State University
• Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, and operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux).
• Familiarity with troubleshooting common software and hardware issues.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions carefully.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience in area applied but not required

Responsibilities

• Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of computers, software, and peripheral devices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues for students, faculty, and staff.
• Provide support for network connectivity issues, including Wi-Fi and VPN troubleshooting.
• Assist in setting up and managing accounts for university systems (email, learning management systems, etc.).
• Help with the maintenance and updates of IT documentation, including user guides and troubleshooting logs.
• Assist in inventory management of hardware and software.
• Support the IT department in various tasks related to security, software updates, and system backups.
• Provide customer service by answering IT-related inquiries and offering helpful solutions.
• Other related duties, as assigned.
