About The Position

RESPEC seeks a Student Intern in Civil or Structural Engineering for its Summer Internship 2027 program in the Juneau, Alaska office. The paid internship is a temporary, part-time position lasting approximately 12 weeks from May through August 2027.

This hands-on role may involve structural engineering, transportation, and land development. The intern will work alongside full-time employees to learn how professional engineering services are provided to clients. Experienced staff will provide mentoring and coaching to help develop civil engineering skills and knowledge. Interns may gain exposure to clients, job sites, the laboratory, communities, and multidisciplinary teams working with public- and private-sector clients.

Requirements

• Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution.
• Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record; the position requires operating a company or personal vehicle during work hours for business-related travel.
• Be a team player who strives to provide quality work.

Nice To Haves

• Solid time-management skills and the ability to produce accurate, high-quality work efficiently.
• Coursework in steel, wood, concrete, and precast/prestressed concrete design.
• Good working knowledge of civil or structural engineering fundamentals.
• Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
• Strong problem-solving and math skills.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical, judgment, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Some proficiency with AutoCAD Revit.
• Willingness to travel around Southeast Alaska.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design work.
• Perform calculations and simulations.
• Research topics as assigned.

• Assist with laboratory testing.
