About The Position

The successful candidate will conduct archival research, and supervise undergraduate research assistants’ work in the University archives, as well as other repositories identified by the History Project team, and relevant to the historical record of the University. The successful graduate research assistant will be responsible for keeping a record, organizing, and analyzing data related to the History Project, and will have experience in the methodologies and conducting of historical research. Other tasks may include literature review, data processing and digitization, and collaborative work on project-related events and/or tasks.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of historical methods and archival research methods
  • Academic expertise in any of the following subject related to the History Project - History of the African Diaspora; the Atlantic Slave Trade, New Orleans/Gulf South, 20th Century U. S. South,
  • Knowledge of higher education research principles and practices
  • Skill in planning, organizing resources and establishing priorities
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships, including any experience supervising or mentoring undergraduate students
  • Skill in both verbal and written communication
  • Skill in the use of personal computer and related basic software applications

Responsibilities

  • Developing archival strategic plans in line with research objectives agreed-upon with the research team.
  • Identifying, locating, and organizing research materials related to Tulane’s history.
  • Supervising undergraduate research assistants or other personnel on research-related tasks.
  • Searching for and reviewing published literature on research topics related to the History Project.
