This position is responsible for performing firefighting tasks and other emergency response services appropriate to Firefighter Levels I-II. This position reports to the Fire Sergeant. The work is heavy to very heavy work, which requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work is typically performed while intermittently walking, sitting, standing, crouching, climbing, bending, or crawling, or stooping. The employee uses tools or equipment, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. The work is typically performed in a fire station and various outdoor environments. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, cold or inclement weather, and conditions associated with emergency and fire scenes. The employee is also periodically exposed to extreme environments such as burning buildings. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc., as well as other specialized firefighting equipment.
